Sweeteners on the HCG Diet

We all can get a sweet tooth and these cravings can make doing the diet impossible.  But, there are some wonderfully perfect solutions that are not only calorie free, they are also good for you!  Bye bye cravings!

Stevia, a natural zero glycemic response sweetener is my favorite sweetener.  Liquid is great as is Stevia in the Raw, granular.  It’s great for baking too!!  It’s easy to find in any grocery store.

Zevia is a great softdrink also that can be drank on the HCG Diet.  http://www.zevia.com/  Tons of flavors.

Most of us on the HCG Diet are familiar with stevia. As far as safety, here’s the most recent study published in 2003 in the Phytochemistry journalRead the abstract for yourself at PubMed: http://tinyurl.com/steviastudy.

There are other benefits to stevia also,

it’s a natural  Antibiotic!  It has proteins, fiber, carbohydrates, iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, rutin (a flavonoid), true vitamin A, Vitamin C and an oil which contains 53 other constituents.  Amazing!!

Some folks do have trouble finding a stevia that tastes good to them, though. Sometimes, that’s just because they are using too much, which for some of us, causes bitterness.  I like  “stevia clear’.  I don’t taste an after taste and it is a  joy to use.  There are also many flavors, orange, lemon, root beer, etc.

For Phase 2 and 3, these other 2 sweeteners can also be added to your staples:

Xylitol, another sugar alcohol with low glycemic response that can be used in small amounts to limit the digestive upset it can cause when too much is eaten too frequently.

Vegetable glycerin

I like this  sweetener because it is thick, like honey, yum!  What that means is that you can use it in recipes that need a syrupy consistency or “mouth feel” to mimic the sugared version. It is great for many recipes including shakes.  I have a free Ebook at www.hcgdietkits.com, just hit the freebies button!

Xylitol

Although it can upset your tummy if you eat too much but xylitol is another sugar alcohol with low glycemic response that makes baking and other recipes in Phase 3 work better.   All of these are great if you are a diabetic.  You should be aware that xylitol is harmful to dogs, so please protect your pets from accidentally ingesting this one. http://tinyurl.com/dogsxylitol

And always remember, you can enjoy foods and be healthy also, it just takes a bit of research and the right coach!  ;-)

So, when you do the hcg diet injections it will be smart to never use artificial sweeteners, just the ones above.  And if you have any other advice, please post it here, thanks!!
